With phone groups, the potential for extraneous noise and technical difficulties can be an issue:
- Choose a place to be during the call that is quiet. Be prepared and ready before so you don’t need to make noise during the call.
- Be aware that telephone microphones are very sensitive to ambient sounds like scooting a chair, outside traffic, or touching your microphone can make a very loud sound that everyone but you can hear.
- If you do need to make noise during the call please use the 'mute' button on your phone or *6 provided by the conference call host (You will need to push *6 one more time to un-mute yourself). Mute buttons allow you to hear what others are saying while blocking the noise from your end, so you won’t miss anything that is being said.
- Speaker phones are more sensitive to ambient noise and often produce poorer voice quality, so avoid them if you can. Better to use a good headset.
- If someone says "Noise Check" during the call, it means there is noise happening somewhere; please check your location as a possible source. Thank you for paying attention to these details, it makes a big difference in the quality of the call for everyone!
